Many Mansions
Ernie Fitzpatrick asked:
Have you ever seriously asked yourself what Jesus meant in John 14 wherein He is quoted to have said something like (depending upon your translation of course), “In my Father’s HOUSE there are many MANSIONS…..and I go to prepare a PLACE for you.” I used to translate that literally because that’s what I was taught. No mas!
The denomination of my childhood and early adult life taught me about streets of gold and mansions so beautiful that there’s nothing here in earth to compare.
What I was not taught is that almost all of the Bible was written and comes from an Eastern paradigm and not the Western one that we operate from and understand. Oriental and Occidental thinking and writing is day and night. The Bible is full of parables, metaphors, allegories, and images that convey a meaning that’s bigger than literal could ever be.
Think about it. Seriously!
God is Spirit and omnipresent (everywhere). So where would this HOUSE that God lives in be? And what need of a HOUSE would the Creator have? We all know that Jesus was a carpenter, but these MANSIONS that Jesus is going to prepare (build) for us, are they literal houses (with streets of gold)?
We’re going to need a lot more than MANY MANSIONS unless of course 90% of the world is going to hell.
But, that’s still a lot of MANSIONS!
Here’s where I’ve landed on this issue. Houses and mansions are symbols of “habittions”. While e here on earth live in a physical body and a literal house or apartment, we live OUT OF our consciousness and our life spring FROM our consciousness, thinking, beliefs, and assumptions. We each LIVE where we ARE because of the consciousness that we’ve built and are still building. And yes, there are many “states of consciousness” from which the “Christ consciousness” (mind of Christ) springs.
So, question number one is WHERE do you want to live – here on earth? Where we will live when we shed these physical frames we currently inhabit really isn’t our choice. Think about it.
